Everyone loves a good story, and so this Sunday we are launching a new sermon series Stories from the East.
Over the coming weeks we will be looking at the parables of Jesus and drawing on the excellent material in Kenneth E. Bailey's book Jesus through Middle Eastern Eyes.Bailey spent forty years living and teaching in the Middle East and employs his experience to brush aside misplaced Western interpretations of the parables and instead set them into their true cultural context. The result is truly enlightening, bringing a depth of understanding and colour to stories that are have become one-dimensional.
Richard Wightman, who leads New Life Church, will kick the series off with a study of Luke 14: 15-24 The Parable of the Great Banquet. This is not just a story of poor excuses by busy people but a dramatic tale of deliberate insults, angry responses and ultimately, the need for grace in our lives.
Richard will be preaching at both sites on Sunday 24th September. The service at Wolverton Mill begins at 10:00am, with Fox Milne beginning 45 minutes later at 10:45am.
